You well find many types of windows sketch drawings, select the window you are working on and print out the desired page. On each sketch drawing you will find detail information on how to measure a window, from panels , top treatment, roman shades, and more.
When approaching a window it is best to start measuring from top of molding to sill, then from opening width, inside of window, and opening width outside of window including molding. Then window opening length and from the top of the ceiling to the window molding. Keep in mind that when measuring from the ceiling to the window, then you can determent the drop of you top treatment. If you are doing panels or may believe you are going to change your designs later. It is best to also measure the window from top of molding to floor, and from the ceiling to the floor.
When measuring a window, also observe where the window is located and the space what is available to you , for the treatment you are Interested in doing. Keep in mind the space you have to the left and the right of each window. Don’t forget to also get the depth of the molding on the window that will determined the projection of the board or road that will be used to make the window treatments.
When designing a window and using a decorators, rod, finials, brackets, and rings. You will need to keep in mind where the window is located and how much space you have on each side; you will need to have at least 6 inches on each side of the window, from the window frame to the wall, in order to be able to install a decorative rod. Usually a decorative bracket is 1 1/2 thick and the finial usually is 4 inches wide. The brackets can be installed on top of the window frame or on the side of the window frame. Example if you’re working with a 36 inches window you will need to add 4 inch to the rod, then add the two finials, that should make your rod finish at 48 inch wide. That should give you the proper look and the accurate installation for that window size. For an illustrated version of the decorative rod measurement, click on Decorative Rod button.
